Cambridge South East Transport: latest

Submitting our CSET application

We have applied for a Transport and Works Act Order to the Department for Transport (DfT) for a new busway, travel hub and path for walkers and cyclists to the southeast of Cambridge.

The application was submitted to the DfT on 9 January 2025 and you can view the application documents in our document library.

The deadline for any objections to, or other representations about, the proposals in the application to be sent to the Secretary of State for Transport was Friday 7 March 2025.

The DfT will review any objections or representations received and likely call for a public inquiry in winter 2025/26.

Scheme 3 – Linton Greenway

Scheme 3, the Linton Greenway, has been divided into 5 sections. Sections 1 and 2 are already complete.

  • Section 4 has been spilt into two phases of work, with phase 1 early works between Newmarket Road and Granta Park completed in autumn 2024.
  • Section 5 of the greenway is also in progress, with sections of the active travel path between Hildersham and Linton already widened.
  • Section 3 involves further design work on the bridge crossing the A11 and is due to start construction in 2025.
  • The route would then continue on-road through the Abingtons to the Hildersham crossroads.

Newmarket Road - Granta Park works completed

Newmarket Road - Granta Park

The work along Newmarket Road in Little Abington was completed in December 2024 after just over four months for the 1,500 residents of the village to have better and safer journeys along the road to the Granta Park roundabout to east of Bourn Bridge Road.

As part of the project, drainage was replaced to ensure carriageway drainage is efficient and additional landscaping was created to make sure the new pathway and surroundings is safe.

The route has also been future proofed for street lighting and fibre ducting has been installed in partnership with Connecting Cambridgeshire as part of Cambridgeshire County Council’s ‘Dig Once’ policy.
