Cambridge South East Transport Study consultation – 9 February – 9 April 2018

CSET Strategy 1 2018 consultation

The focus of the consultation were three high-level public transport strategies:

  • A new busway from the A11 to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
  • A bus lane along the A1307 between the A11 and Addenbrooke’s Hospital with a new, separate bus link to the Biomedical Campus.
  • A bus lane along the A1307 between the A11 and Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

All three strategies included bus priority, road safety, walking and cycling improvements and along the A1307 between Haverhill and Cambridge.

Workshops – April 2017 – September 2017

During a series of workshops, local representatives suggested possible improvements to bus, walking, cycling and horse-riding links in the Cambridge to Haverhill area. These were presented to the Joint Assembly and Executive Board in November 2017.

A1307, Three Campuses to Cambridge consultation – 16 June – 1 August 2016

2016 consultation

The consultation presented 11 initial ideas for bus and cycle links between Cambridge and Haverhill.

2015 workshops & early engagement

In 2015 we held workshops with key stakeholders in the Cambridge to Haverhill area. The workshops looked at:

  • transport problems
  • ideas for potential improvement
  • links between major employment sites (Granta Park, Babraham Research Campus and Cambridge Biomedical Campus).

As a result, a range of different options were put forward. These included:

  • re-opening the Haverhill to Cambridge railway line,
  • a bypass for Linton and
  • creating a dual carriageway along the A1307 route.

Initial technical work helped to determine and compare the benefits of different ideas and to develop concepts. The benefits and costs of these concepts were considered against their ability to meet the objectives of the Greater Cambridge Partnership programme.

The rail and road dualling concepts were found not to be affordable or deliverable within the scope of the Greater Cambridge Partnership.

South Area Community Forum & Local Liaison Forum

A Local Liaison Forums (LLF) was set up for the scheme in 2017. The project team and members of the local community met regularly to

  • give an update on the project and
  • involve the local community in the scheme development.

The South Area Community Forum has now replaced the LLF. The Community Forum is part of a location-based engagement, which covers all GCP schemes in the area.

Recordings of recent meetings can be watched on YouTube.
