Melbourn Greenway Meldreth FAQs

Melbourn Greenway

Ahead of works starting in Meldreth as part of the Melbourn Greenway, we’ve put together some FAQs to help residents understand why we’re delivering these improvements, and what the project involves.

The works are planned to take 11 weeks.

The scheme has been designed in accordance with the latest government, county and district council walking and cycling design guidance as well as through extensive engagement with local parishes, residents and businesses.

Three rounds of consultation/engagement have taken place with residents. Public responses to the proposals have helped to shape the plans for Meldreth Link, including:

  • Public Engagement 2017/18
  • Public consultation summer 2019
  • Public Engagement autumn 2022

The plans will provide a widening of the existing footpath to create a bridleway, as requested by the public. In addition to widening, the scheme will provide more lighting to improve security on the route and cycle parking at the end of the Meldreth Link (nearest the railway station).

The path will be closed for the full duration of the works with a diversion via Station Road. There is, unfortunately, no space to safely accommodate the works, machinery and materials needed, alongside a temporary path.

A diversionary route will be provided from Station Road to Railway Close via the A10 Bridge and the High Street. Temporary signalised crossings will be provided for people to safely cross the road.

No. Works are happening away from the underpass and recent artworks here will not be affected. The ‘Wonderpass’ under the A10 will not be accessible during the works.

Yes. We will replace existing lighting between Station Road and the underpass and adding new lighting columns between the underpass and railway station.

Six trees on the Meldreth Link will be removed to allow for widening of the path. Tree replacement will be included on the Melbourn Greenway.
