Chisholm Trail: phase 1

Overview

Phase 1 of the Chisholm Trail starts at Cambridge North Station and ends at Coldham’s Lane.

This section of the trail has been fully open since 2022. 

The route

The Busway, Cambridge North Station to Ditton Meadows

  • In Chesterton, the Trail accesses Cambridge North Station via Moss Bank and joins up with the track alongside the Busway.
  • The existing towpath along the has been resurfaced and widened in this area.
  • The new bridge close to the existing railway bridge allows the Trail to continue across the river. Known currently as the ‘Abbey-Chesterton bridge’, this £4.5m project has been funded separately by Cambridgeshire County Council.
  • The existing narrow wooden jetty under the railway bridge has been. This does not hamper rowing.
  • On Ditton Meadows, a path follows the field boundary by the railway line.

The Leper Chapel and Barnwell

Coldham's Common

  • The path across the Common has been upgraded and widened. The sight lines around the existing underpass have been improved.
