Greenways update: March 2025
Published 28 March 2025Welcome to our March 2025 newsletter.
Please note that we are currently in the pre-election period. As a public body, there are clear rules covering what we can issue during this time. Therefore, we will focus on progress of works only. In this month’s newsletter, we're bringing you updates on:
- Work in Horningsea village, Fen Ditton and Cowley Road
- Early works in Barton village
- Planning submission for Barton Greenway
- Approved changes for Burrell’s Walk and Fulbourn Greenway
Horningsea Greenway - Horningsea village & Fen Ditton
Work on the Horningsea Greenway continues to progress, with all streetlight heads replaced. In Fen Ditton, new street light columns are due to be installed and connected by early April. High friction surfacing, to help prevent skidding and mitigate the risk of collisions, is being worked on and will be complete in early April.
In Horningsea village, additional signage, bollards and road markings will soon be installed. Find out more.
Waterbeach Greenway – Cowley Road improvements
Work to create a new segregated cycle track and footway along the Cowley Road section of the Waterbeach Greenway is ongoing. Work is due to complete at the end of April by which time the remaining footway kerbs will be in place along with final streetlighting columns, new surfacing of the path, and final road markings. We’re also reseeding grass verges disturbed by the works. We appreciate your patience as we work towards completing all works at Cowley Road this spring. Find out more.
Barton Greenway– Barton village safety improvements
Work is due to commence at the end of April on a range of improvements within the Barton village. These include junction works to create safer crossings and other traffic calming measures such as raised tables and speed humps. Full details of the upcoming works, including timings and likely diversions or road closures, will be shared with local residents and businesses before works start.
Barton Greenway– planning application
A planning application has been submitted which, if approved, will bring forward the delivery of the entire Barton Greenway, including the sections outside of the highway boundary. Find out more.
Greenway changes approved for Comberton and Fulbourn greenways
Our Executive Board has approved a new, widened bridge for Burrell’s Walk as part of the Comberton Greenway. Find out more.
Changes have also been approved for the final section (phase 3) of the Fulbourn Greenway, using part of Mill Road. Find out more.
